First off … my goodness, Smallville, what were you thinking when you were filming this episode’s villain’s performance? Dr. Bernard Chisolm may have had his noggin carved up by the Kandorians after being risen from the dead, but that’s no excuse to overact! I actually laughed out loud at the delivery of such lines as “and then you’ll be HUNTED and EXTERMINATED!!” or when he pleads with Lois: “IT’S AN ALIEN!” We needed Dr. Hamilton to walk in and tell this dude to chillax! And to top it off, he goes out in the most cartoonish and ridiculous way possible – by accidentally electrocuting himself with his own giant drill! I mean, seriously, did Clark need to show up at all? This fool would have taken himself out easily!

It turns out who really is to blame for this wingnut is Faora and the other Kandorians, who were actually carving up human cadavers to see how they can get their powers back. When Chisolm is resurrected, he turned the tables and became a cross between Agent Mulder and Annie Wilkes as he forces Lois to write his cockadoody story. “Agent” Zod soon tracks her down, but gets shot in the process. Clark uses his blood to heal Zod. This is the second time this season Clark’s blood helped, the first being in “Rabid” when it helped create an antidote to cure the zombies that were running around. It’s interesting to see his blood coming back into play, as its regenerative abilities have not been discussed since Season 3 when Lionel (remember him?) used it to make his Lazarus Serum.

Clark’s blood not only heals Zod (although I wonder if he still has a bullet inside him), but it gives him the powers he has been dying for. Quite literally. When he flew off the roof of the Daily Planet, I actually got pretty aggravated because it seems that every full-powered Kryptonian rocks the power of flight almost immediately after arriving on Earth. TORONTO, ONTARIO — (Marketwire) — 02/04/10 — Nebu Resources Inc. (the “Company”) (TSX VENTURE: NBU) announces the acquisition of a 100% interest in a group of 11 historic patented mining claims adjacent to a past producing gold mine owned by Goldcorp Inc. (“GC”) that is subject to an earn in agreement with Metals Creek Resources Corp. (“MC”).

The new property now provides the Company with property adjacent to both the north and the south boundaries of the GC-MC property that includes the former producing gold mine known as the Nabob Mine. Some of the drill holes completed in 2009 by MC were essentially collared on the mutual boundary of the Nabob Mine property and the newly acquired Morin Property. Despite the proximity of the Morin Property to the Nabob Mine, there is no known history of diamond drilling near the property boundary and in fact only one drill hole has ever been reported to have been completed on the property, in the early 1980’s as part of a regional exploration program.

A reference in a July 20, 2009 press release by MC indicated the discovery of significant gold mineralization assaying from 0.006 g/t to 64.4 g/t gold in 46 samples collected within altered porphyry over a 425 metre by 150 metre area located 1000 metres to the northwest of the Nabob Mine. While no specific location is given it may be that this area is located close to the Morin Property as historic maps show the outline of a porphyry body occurring very close to the southwest corner of the Morin claims.

The property also covers a 1.5 km interval of the easterly extension of the favourable mine stratigraphy of the Desantis Mine and the McEnaney Mine, the latter of which is located only 900 metres to the west of the west boundary of the Morin Property.

What a difference two years can make.

Take the case of the California University men’s basketball team, for instance.

It was less than 24 months ago that the Vulcans were in Springfield, Mass., playing in the Elite Eight. Cal U lost a heartbreaker to Alaska-Anchorage, 55-52, after winning the PSAC West with an 11-1 record and the East Region.

Since then, however, the Vulcans have fallen on hard times in the PSAC West.

After starting out 3-0 in 2009, including a stunning upset of eventual PSAC champion and East Regional titlist Gannon, the Vulcans lost eight of their next 11 games and missed the playoffs.

This year it’s been a lot worse.

The Vulcans are still looking for their first league victory. They are sitting in last place with an 0-6 record as they close the first half of the PSAC West campaign at home Wednesday with Slippery Rock.

The 14 PSAC West losses in one and a half seasons are the most California has ever had in successive campaigns over the past 30 years.

What happened?

“It’s been a combination of toughness and focus,” answered California coach Bill Brown. “With the exception of Gannon, we’ve been in every game. We just haven’t been able to close games out and decision making has cost us.”

“We’re not playing power basketball and our perimeter shooting hasn’t been good.”

One of the losses was on a three-pointer at the buzzer to Clarion and the latest defeat was by one point to Mercyhurst when Cal had 20 seconds to pull out the victory. Both narrow setbacks came at Hamer Hall.

It hasn’t helped that Brown had to play several games without some starters and reserves who were suspended for violating team rules.

One look at the league statistics should tell you why the Vulcans are not a front-runner in the West as has been the case in the past.

California doesn’t have a player among the conference’s top 20 in either scoring or rebounding.

This year’s Valencia Film Celebration, an annual screening of short movies and feature films that students from Valencia Community College’s Film Program have worked on, co-produced and crewed, is Valentine’s Day weekend, Feb. 12 and 13, at the college’s East campus.

And the Feb. 13, Saturday night portion of the event, featuring the Orlando-filmed hip hop drama Just Another Day, will be a Hip Hop for Haiti Night, with proceeds benefiting Wyclef Jean’s Yéle Haiti. Tickets to the Feb. 13 program of films are $10.

The 15th Film Celebration kicks off the evening of Feb. 12 with another showing of the Valencia-produced water-skiing dramedy H2O Extreme.

The 15th Annual Valencia Film Celebration will take place on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13 in the Performing Arts Center of Valencia Community College’s East Campus. This year’s showcase will feature a variety of award-winning shorts, as well as the final-cut world premiere of “Just Another Day.”

Each evening is themed with opening night, Friday, Feb. 12, billed as Family Night with live music and dance performances from Wolfgramm Entertainment – South Pacific Luau. Independent shorts will begin at 7 p.m.  The feature film of the evening will be “H2O Extreme,” which follows the life of Austin Roberts, a young man forced to choose between his love of hockey and his passion for water skiing. He faces several obstacles but embraces his true passion and enters an H20 Extreme Challenge where intense water ski stunts take over the big screen.
